Nol Reuser never felt obliged to any particular style of painting. In his early days, the eighties, he felt attracted to realism like Barbizon and Haagse School and impressionists like Monet and Van Gogh. He temporarily assumed expressionist elements, later being influenced by Cobra (Corneille / Appel) and Picasso. Using and experimenting with various materials and techniques, including oil, acrylics, watercolours, pastels and collages, Nol Reuser expresses cheerfulness and joy of life. With an easy touch, he unfolds his lively tableaus full of Joie de Vivre and a look at them will give a positive impulse to anybodys look at life.
After working for forty years with full ambition in both primary and secondary schools, Nol Reuser started painting in 1980 by attending higher fine art classes in order to be a fully qualified art teacher.
Initially producing figurative works, mainly landscapes, nature morte, ballet dancers and clowns, he ended up with contemporary and abstract paintings influenced by modern Dutch painters such as Van Wordragen, Van Iersel en Cremer.
A complete change of style was caused by his beloved brothers sudden death in 2001. He, his brother Toon, was also a talented teacher in high school. In 2002 Nol dedicated an exhibition to him called Education.
Being married to his lovely wife Maria, he got two daughters who also work with people, the one being a school teacher and the other being a psychologist, Nol started painting from childrens drawings which brought him and his paintings back to basics in both colour and style. Painting is for Nol an experience comparable to complete relaxation and bliss. His works of art are to be found in various private collections, galleries, firms and companies such as banks.
